Workshop

Our monthly workshop is Wednesday, September 10th
at the Enfield Senior Center, from 6:00 – 8pm.

Speedy Strips Workshop

Supplies Needed:
Sewing Machine, Bobbins, Scissors, Thread, Machine Needles

Fabric Needed:
Scraps: (We all have scraps) Sizes to be cut into stips, rectangles or squares 2 1/2", 3", 3 1/2", 4", 4 1/2" and 5"

Put each size into seperate baggies or boxes, whichever is convenient. (All 2 1/2" into one large baggie or shoebox) and so forth. That means a total of 6 large bags of scraps or shoeboxes. If you have smaller or larger scraps bring them also. We will be sewing strips together and then sewing the stips together and then cutting into squares for a quilt top.

This is a free class, and also it will help eliminate all those scraps. This class will also be continued on October 8th to finish the blocks and possibly putting a quilt top together.
See All There, Donalyn Wall

Misc News / Information

Diane Derose is collecting thread spools for a project at Parkman school. Please save all empty spools for her!! Thank you!!

We still haven't located Maureen MacDonald's Nine-Patch box. Her box is a yellow cardboard shoebox with ribbons attached to keep it closed.
Please re-check your sewing area again and make sure her box isn't under some unfinished projects!

At the September meeting, we will have sign-ups for a new year of nine-patch shoeboxes. Please bring your shoebox with 4 starter nine-patches and instructions to the October meeting. The boxes will get labels and start traveling at the October meeting. If you can't attend the September meeting and want to participate in the shoebox exchange, please call me at 860-413-9335 before the September meeting if possible or before October 10. Labels will be prepared the weekend before our meeting which is on Wednesday, October 15.

For the fabric swap, I would like to try strips instead of squares. If we cut 5 inch strips and then cut on the fold, we could exchange strips of 5 inches by about 21 inches. Thanks, Christine Goldschmidt

Quilts of Valor

We have completed nine quilts for our Quilts of Valor project. Four have been sent to our assigned destination, Dover AFB in Delaware, and a wonderful thank you letter has been received. We are awaiting assignment on three more.

We have photos of the quilts ready for display at our meeting, and we are working on getting them uploaded to our website.

Two QOV will be given out locally, one at our first meeting of the year, Sept 17. Glen Galbraith, Army Reservist and Enfield resident, will be there, bringing the Purple Heart medal for his service and injury in Afghanistan. The Reminder Press has planned to cover the short presentation too.

Many thanks to all who sewed, layered, quilted and made binding for these special quilts for our wounded Armed Forces service men and women. Cyndy

We had a great summer, and just hate to see it end……..

I started a 'craft box', for my four grandchildren, I have filled it with all kinds of 'stuff', things we normally throw away, tissue boxes, cardboard toilet roll holders, ribbon, salvage from fabric (the 6 year old's favorite!), stickers, crayons, glue, markers and they just go to town, making the most amazing things!!

I have also had the opportunity to go to Sanford, Maine, to a store called Mardens, twice, once in May and again in August! They have a fabulous fabric department, quality cottons for $2.98 a yard. I now have WAY too much fabric and yarn……….

See you soon, love and hugs, your editor, Vicky
