We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas potluck/Christmas exchange party at last month's meeting. We missed all of you that were not able to attend.

Here is the recipe for Butterscotch Crunch:

1-12 oz. pkg. butterscotch chips
1 cup peanut butter
8 cups favorite Chex cereal
1 cup chocolate chips

In large pot over low heat, melt butterscotch chips and peanut better. Stir frequently. Stir in cereal until coated. Stir in chocolate chips until just mixed in, not melted. Spread on wax paper lined cookie sheet. Chill 30 minutes or until coating is firm.

I missed seeing Dolly Bean at the holiday party and hadn't been able to get her off my mind, so I called her at home the Friday before Christmas and was able to talk with her. She is weak from the radiation, but her usual cheerful self! And good news, the radiation has worked, the lung cancer is gone! Still having problems with the congested heart failure. She asked that I mention that she has not been able to write a thank you note to the members of the guild for the beautiful quilt, she of course treasures it and has received many comments on it from those who have come to her home. She also said she hopes to see all of us at a meeting soon! We continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers, Dolly

The History of Batik's

According to legend, an Indonesian king married a beautiful princess, but soon she was very lonely because the king was always busy with his many duties. His wife had a lot of time on her hands, for she had many servants and nothing to do. As a way of dealing with her loneliness and in an attempt to attract her husband's attention, the queen looked for things to do and began creating patterns and drawings on cotton fabric.

She took dyes made from indigo and other local plants and using a tool called a canting (pronounced chanting) she created beautiful batik fabrics. As she progressed with her craft, the designs became more intricate and were very beautiful.

One day the king noticed her work. He was amazed by the beauty of the fabrics. He praised her for her work and their love grew. He visited her often to see the wonderful designs she had created. And so they lived in their kraton or palace for many happy years. When you look closely at batik designs, you will find flowers and stars which represent their love and hope. Some of the designs are still used today.
