We will meet Wednesday, October 18th, at HB Stowe School on Post Office Road,
doors open at 6:30pm and the meeting will begin at 7:00pm.
Pat Grant, Pres. Of the Greater Hartford Guild,
will teach us how to make a wire quilt hanging.
GHQG News: I want to thank all of you that volunteered to take a flat
quarter to make a 12 1/2 inch Friendship Star square(s) for the Ovarian
Cancer Quilt. A reminder, the Teal fabric must make up at least 50% or
more of the square(s) and is due at our October Meeting. If you have
fabric that you did not use, please bring that with you to the meeting.
The website, www.blanktextiles.com
has some interesting facts regarding these quilts.
Contributions of non-perishable food for the Newington Senior Center
food shelf (this is where we meet for the GHQG Meeting) and the Enfield
Food Shelf are also due at our October Meeting.
Food: Gail Concannen-Popp, Mary Schaller-Race
Beverage: Debbie Soozzafare

I received word that the parents of Marine Philip Johnson would
be "honored" to have a quilt from our guild in memory of their son.
Anyone can participate by bringing in a 9" block (9.5" unfinished)
in any design. The block should have a patriotic theme, with red,
white, or blue fabric somewhere in the block. Please give them to
me at the October or November meeting, and THANKS!! Cyndy Ostrout

Cyndy Ostrout started sewing when she was 13, and started quilting around 1992,
they needed a special gift for their parents 50th anniversary. She joined the
quilt guild 10 or 12 years ago and has been secretary, treasurer, refreshment
person, president and charity coordinator over the years.
Her favorite fabric would be reproduction fabrics, because she likes traditional
quilts the best, although she likes to try alot of different things!! She loves
wearables too - quilted jackets, vests, etc., and bags.

I have read 2 delightful books over the summer.
The first one is actually a children's book, "Knitting Nell"
by Julie Jersild Roth. Quickly travel with Nell as she knits
for others and then teaches her friends!
The other is "Every Quilt Tells A Story" by Helen Kelley.
She has written the "Loose Threads" column for Quilter's
Newsletter since 1983. She entertains with tales of meeting
quilters at guild meetings, workshops, the grocery store,
as she buys a sewing machine, fabric and the importance of
quilts to our families.
