Announcements
New quilting and fabric store to open in downtown Ridgefield!
All are welcome to the grand opening celebration of
Quilter's Alley on Saturday, March 11, 2006.
The Quilter's Alley will feature unique fabric and notions for the
fiber artist as well as the traditional quilter. They will also stock
a selection of quilted gifts for the non-quilter. The shop is owned
by Roxanne and Stuart Lasky, local Ridgefield residents. Roxanne is
an award-winning Artist and Teacher. Stuart is a former Human Resources
professional. Their joint efforts have produced a warm, inviting
destination for the novice through advanced quilter. Classes will be
forming for all levels. They urge all of the artistic community in
Fairfield County to visit the shop.
The Quilter's Alley is located at 424 R Main Street, the alley between
Cappiello Bros. Jewelry and Wm. Raveis Real Estate.
The Quilter's Alley phone number is 203-431-0023.

I am writing to let the quilting community know that Mapmuse.com has
added a map for US quilters to add their quilt guilds. This is being done
at the suggestion of a quilter who visited our website, and felt that a
map of guilds would be very helpful to new quilters looking for a place
or get started. We have not attempted to locate and provide information
about the guilds ourselves, but have provided a map with an ADD feature,
so that guild members can enter the pertinent information about their
guilds themselves. It is easy to do, simply go to the link below and
click on "Do you know of a quilt guild we are missing?" Fill out the form,
and click submit. It will be added within a day.
Here is the link to the quilt guild map page:
http://find.mapmuse.com/re1/interest.php?brandID=QUILTING_GUILDS
Also, if you go to our interest directory, you may find other topics of
interest such as Quilt Shops, and Fabric Stores. These maps are already
full of information (but can be added to). Thanks for your help, and I
hope you find our services useful!

Tips & Hints
Rotary cutting tools are not just for quilter's. Use the same
tools to make perfect squares, rectangles, strips and more.
1) Preshrink and press your fabric.
2) Fold the fabric, matching the selvedges.
3) Align the length of the ruler near the raw edge of the fabric and use the dots on the ruler to perfectly align the ruler to the folded edge of the fabric.
4) Hold the ruler down with your finger tips, applying pressure while keeping your hands away from the edge of the ruler.
5) Roll the cutter along the edge of the ruler on the raw edge of the fabric.

6) Turn the fabric and align the ruler to the new squared edge and the fold to the desired measurements.
7) Use a straightened edge and the angle lines on the ruler for other cutting needs, such as bias tape.
