The Next Meeting

We will meet February 15th at HB Stowe on Post Office Road, doors open at 6:30 and the meeting will begin at 7:00.

One of our own members, Cynthia Toolin, will teach us about Penny Rugs, along with raffle and show and tell.

Cynthia has asked us to bring some supplies for the class: Students need to bring a crewel needle with an eye large enough to handle either size 3, 5 or 8 thread. They also need to bring pearle cotton, in black, flat head "flower" pins, and scissors.

If they want, they can use embroidery floss instead. To finish their project at home, they will need batting and a square of cotton fabric for the backing. There will be 3 kinds of pincushion kits - a heart, a star and a penny. The wool color varies from kit to kit. There will be 20 of each. The cost is $5.

Raffle: Eve Wheat, Janet Spencer, Fran Jansuywez, June Smith

REFRESHMENTS:
Food: June Smith, Carlene Smith, Mary Shaw
Beverage: Eve Wheat, Sally Cummings

Workshop

Our monthly workshop is Wednesday night
February 8th at the Senior Center, from 6:30 – 8pm.

Jean Hoagland will be teaching us about paper piecing.

Community Service Project

Are you working on a Humbag bag for the veterans? Is the need for a zipper making you dread sewing one up? Well, we have a solution:

Put together a 11.5 x 15.5 mini quilt: a top fabric, batting and backing, layered and machine quilted in any simple manner. Give the quilted fabric to Cyndy Ostrout or Pat Mercier. Please have your name with it. We will put the zipper in and return it to you. Finish the bag. Put 3 or 4 small personal care items in the bag. Turn it in - it's Done!

A new quilt store will be opening in the center of Ridgefield, Ct.

The Quilter's Alley will feature all major lines of quality fabrics for traditional quilters, art quilters and some fashion fabrics.

We will carry a full line of notions, threads, embellishments, patterns and also offer a variety of classes.

Grand opening is scheduled for the second week of March 2006. Please visit our website for updates on the store. www.thequiltersalley.com

Thanks, Roxanne & Stuart Lasky

American Hero Quilts were born out of the love and compassion of one determined Washington State woman. Her dream is that each of our injured troops returning home from war through Madigan Army Medical Hospital and other military hospitals, receive a "hug" of appreciation.

These "hugs" are exceptional patriotic, heirloom quality quilts. Each is unique, created by many loving hands, and many are long-arm quilted by the creator of this project. Email: helpinghands@americanheroquilts.com

SIMPLY QUILTS
It is true,
there will not be any more new episodes of Simply Quilts, unless:

There are petitions and email addresses circulating, but a good old-fashioned paper letter that arrives by mail will make the most impact.

Address your letter of protest to:

Simply Quilts - HGTV
Viewer Services
9721 Sherrill Blvd.
Knoxville, TN 37932

It doesn't have to be long; a few sentences will do it. Speak from your heart. Ask them to reconsider. Can't find the right words? Try: "I watch Simply Quilts. I want YOU to know and I want ALEX to know. Keep her on the air. Please send her this piece of fabric from me." Include a 3" square of quilting fabric for Alex. Sign the patch with your name, city, and state with a permanent pen. Ink in a message to Alex if you like. ASK VIEWER SERVICES TO FORWARD IT TO ALEX ANDERSON. By all means send emails and sign the online petitions, but if we all write a letter (or two) we might turn the tables. Either way, Alex will have enough patches for the biggest friendship quilt on the planet!

Don't wait! Do it!

Thank you for my wonderful Secret Pal.
Love, Sally Cummings
