Quilting Tips & Tricks

Jinny Beyer, teacher and fabric designer recommends tearing fabric. She wants the fabric to be on the grain. Sometimes the torn edge is at a diagonal, and sometimes the fabric can't be cut if doubled. What happens is that when the fabric is processed, it is clamped flat on a table, and the grain may not bee at right angles. Once it has gone through the processing, it can't be changed. One reason some people object to tearing is that the print may become distorted on the edge of the fabric.
