Block of the Month

Here's how our Block of the Month will work this year:

  • Each month, a block is DUE. (All blocks are DUE the night of the meeting of the month of the block. This means that the October block, for instance, is DUE at the October meeting.).
  • You don't have to participate in any given month, or at all. BUT if you do complete the block for the month, your name will be entered into a drawing for some or all of the blocks. (for instance, if 30 people bring in blocks, we may decide to have 3 drawings that night, awarding 10 blocks each. On the other hand, if only 8 people bring blocks, we may just have 1 drawing and award all 8 blocks.)
  • All blocks will be awarded the night of the meeting. You do not have to be present to win, but you do have to have your block there for your name to be entered.
  • PLUS if you are feeling really creative one month and bring in multiples of the block of the month, you will have multiple chances to win (i.e., bring in 3 blocks, your name is entered 3 times)!

General Instructions for ALL Blocks:

  1. All fabrics should be pre-washed
  2. Whether seam allowances have been included or excluded is clearly marked on each month's pattern. Please read directions carefully prior to cutting any fabric.
  3. You may piece or applique by hand or machine, but please do not applique by fusing (e.g., WonderUnder).
  4. To ensure uniform size in all blocks, please check the seam allowance on your machine to make sure it is a scant 1/4".
  5. Press seam allowances as you sew, pressing to the dark piece in most cases.
  6. Blocks should NOT be quilted.
  7. Please use 100% cotton fabric, not a poly/cotton blend.
